Clos des Lambrays
Clos des Lambrays
France
Domaine des Lambrays is one of Burgundy’s oldest and most prestigious vineyards, dating back to the 14th century when it belonged to the Abbey Citeaux, and monks tended the vines. After the French Revolution, however, the vineyard was confiscated and sold to 75 different owners. It wasn’t until the 19th century that the estate was pieced back together again, by a stream of owners who, despite their efforts in reconstituting the property, left it largely abandoned. It was then bought by the Sair brothers in 1979, and with the help of winemaker Thierry Brouin the team began modernizing and replanting. In 1981, the vineyard was granted Grand Cru status. In 2014, the property, identified as one of the jewels of Bourgogne, was acquired by LVMH Group, making their first step in Burgundian wine.

The 2019 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is showing very well in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, strawberries and plums mingled with scents of orange rind, rose petals and sweet spices. Full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's a sensual, caressing wine with a fleshy core of fruit, polished tannins and lively balancing acids. This will offer a broad drinking window.
